December 29th, 2010what is a good exercise i could use to make my thighs and gluets less….noticeable?
November 15th, 2010i don’t/can’t afford anything like bowflex. :/
Is this a good work out routine?
November 12th, 2010i use the bowflex, and i work out on that every other day
i use heavy weights so i can only do about 10 reps per exercise (with 30 seconds inbetween the next), cause i heard thats what builds muscle
every other day (in between the bowflex workouts) i run a mile on a treadmill (12 incline, 4.5 speed)
and i try to eat lots of protein and good food (i started drinking that gross stuff V8 too)
i just wanted to know if thats a good workout routine
any pointers or suggestions?
thanks
What else should I include in my diet and exercise (teenage girl)?
November 8th, 2010I am 15, 5′6" and 145lbs. I want to loose 20 or so lbs. I have started doing the Jenny McCarthy workout on my Wii, which I do 30mins of cardio each day, and a couple days a week do weights on the bowflex. I am medium bone frame and pretty muscly, because I ride horses competitively and it builds up your arms and legs, so I dont know if 120 or 125 is realistic but I was there a while ago and fit comfortably in size 3, which i want back (I’m now a 6 or 8). I mainly want my thighs and hips gone….what other exercises would be good for me to add? I have a pool so swimming might be something I should start everyday. I would run on the treadmill but I have very bad knees and generally it kills my knees, and our family doctor said our body types are not meant for running, otherwise I would be all over that.. I am also dieting, not very severely but typically breakfast would be a small bowl of organic Kashi cereal and lunch 2 pieces of turkey breast on whole wheat bread, and dinner whatever my mom makes but in proportion. And fruit or veggies as snacks in between. I’ve only been doing this 3 days but I would like some new ideas of what I should be adding. I would like to drop as much as I can in the next 4 weeks, before I go to my national competition. I used to pig out and ate whatever I wanted whenever and how much, so the diet is hard for me and not eating after dinner even harder, because Im very hungry when I go to bed, but I am determined. Also tips or thoughts appreciated.
I'd really like to get in complete shape, would a bowflex be right for me? Other questions too!?
November 7th, 2010I am 6′1 and 265 lbs, I’m at my wits end with being out of breath, feeling like crap and not knowing what to do. I have an anxiety disorder and also have GERD, I worry constantly about blood clots or heart issues and it seems to never end, I wanted to spend my tax returns on a plasma TV but I just had an epiphany, why should I spend that much on a TV when I can just finally get in shape and feel good, I want my son to know a dad who will be able to run about with him in a year when he is 2 years old and not know an anxious overweight father. Can I get some tips on a good start, should I invest in a classic bowflex for 650$ or should I just goto a local store and buy some weights and a bench? Does the bowflex really have most of it all in one? the classic series says it does like 30+ dif exercises. I honestly don’t know how I should be eating or how I should be working out, when to give this muscle group a rest and such, nothing, any advice would be so greatly appreciated, I just want to get in complete shape and feel great about my body and my mind and stop worrying about death. Thank you all.

Does anyone recommend a good exercise machine to build muscle mass in the upeperbody?
November 4th, 2010I cannot bench press as I am 14 and am still growing. I have the total gym, but I am at the last resistance level and find it easy. I am fine with my lower body as I have leg press machines and treadmills etc. I was thinking about the bowflex, but I cannot afford it and there is no room in my basement. Being 14 I am limited to the type of exercises I can do. I cannot get a gym membership as I am in highschool and am busy. I have been doing free weights but that is not enough. (Really want to lose weight. I have some muscle mass, but not alot.)

October 31st, 2010I’m 5 feet 6/7 inches.I’m between 110-120 pounds.I’m 16 years. My aim is NOT to loose weight, but just to remain healthy, and my goal one day is to have toned muscles.
I love to run on my treadmill, but that alone gets to be quite boring. We have a Bowflex machine, but I don’t use it.Should I be? I’m on holiday right now,so I can train everyday if possible, but I want a routine suited for me.
As for diet…my family and I dine on a LOT of mashed potatoes, pork, beef, eggs, bread…we always have meat. But I don’t eat the pork and beef..I rarely do.
I don’t drink soft drinks nor eat take out alot.If we do have take out,its chinese.I get sick when I eat something too oily..eek
I don’t snack a lot..all I’d really snack on is bits of chocolate,twice a day at most.Honest.
Anyway..Any help to make a routine would be greatly appreciated!
Good Exercise Routine for a 16 Year Old Girl?
October 29th, 2010hey. i’m 16 years old, about 5′1” and around 146 pounds. i’m going to start eating healthier (south beach phase 1), but i don’t know what to do for my workout. i have access to a treadmill, elliptical, stair climber-ish thing, bowflex, free weights, and when the weather gets a little warmer i can also walk or ride my bike around the neighborhood.
so yeah…what kinds of exercises should i do? how long should my workouts last? how many days per week?
thanks in advance. you are loved.
exercise/weight loss help!?
October 28th, 2010ok so i’m going to florida mid april & i want to be able to wear a bikini and not feel self-conscious. i’m not fat, i just have a little more "jiggle" around my tummy/ obliques than i would like. right now i’m about 5′4 and 120ish lbs and i would like to be around 112-115 lbs. what are some specific exercises that would help me get rid of the extra fat and make my tummy firmer and less flabby before april? (the only equipment i have is a treadmill & a bowflex thing but i’m not really sure how to use it.) how long do you think it will take before i see noticeable results?
also i’m trying very hard to cut out junk foods. i don’t drink soda, and i’ve cut out cookies, cakes, and ice cream (occasionally i give in to ice cream though
) so far, i think i’ve done pretty well with this.

Work Out–Bulking Up?!?
October 26th, 2010I’m a 17 year old guy and I’m about 110 lb, at a height of 5′8". I do shoulder exercises, trap exercises, bench presses, and biceps exercises–almost everyday. I’m using the Bowflex Dumbells. I also run. And, I take creatine. I’m trying to put on muscle. What should my calorie and protein intake be? Thanks. Lastly, any idea on how long till I see results?
….Also, do I take creatine even on days when I do not work out?
What can i eat to help loose/not gain weight?
October 24th, 2010Hello all, Im 16, and weigh 151 lbs. About 3 weeks ago i had a self realization and decided to get off my ass and get a better looking body. I have a gym membership and have been going to the gym for 3 weeks. During that time Ive gone from using 30 lbs to 50-70 lbs during resistance exercises with machines. I see great change in my arms, but my stomach is still, lets say unattractive. I do many ab workouts provided by the gym, and crunches plus other exercises at home with my bowflex. But its not getting any better. So i was wondering if anybody new of any meals (for breakfast, lunch, dinner) that would better help me keep off the fat. Something grocery store related please. You know stuff that "I" could get a hold of… lol
how to lose weight before school starts?
October 23rd, 2010okay so right now i’m 17, 5′2” and 148 pounds. my doctor says that my ideal weight would be around 115-120. i’d like to start losing that weight as soon as possible. i would like to lose around 15 pounds before school starts september 1st, which is about 7 weeks away. how should i go about losing this weight? like, what foods should i stay away from? what foods should i eat more of? what exercises burn the most calories (i have a treadmill, elliptical, stair step machine, bowflex and free weights)? what exercises are good for toning the butt/thighs/abs area? how much weight can i safely lose in 7 weeks?
how to lose 2 pounds per week?
October 21st, 2010hey y’all! right now, i’m 17 years old, 5′2” and 154.6 pounds. that’s not a healthy weight, and i’m already at risk for a ton of health problems just because of family and i dont want my weight to increase my risk. my goal is to get down to my ideal weight of around 118-120 by my 18th birthday, which is in february. in order to reach my goal, i need to lose 2 pounds per week, which i think is a reasonable goal. but i had a couple questions as to how i should reach this goal…
1. will drinking green tea in the morning help at all or is it not worth it? i’d be sweetening it with a little splenda, so it would have like 5 calories…
2. does limiting/cutting carbs help? like, should i limit myself to mostly veggies, lean protein, a couple servings of fruit and then maybe 2-3 servings of carbs per week?
3. how much water should i be drinking per day, especially in the first couple weeks to lose water weight?
4. what kinds of exercise will burn the most calories? i have a treadmill, elliptical, stair step machine, and i could go to the gym and take whatever classes. any suggestions?
5. what are some good toning exercises? i have a bowflex and 2lb, 3lb and 10lb weights
6. any other diet/exercise/weight loss tips?
thanks!
slightly disabled, need an indoor exercise routine?
October 20th, 2010I’m a 49-yr-old woman with a few physical limitations. I have moderate to severe bursitis in both shoulders, moderate to severe tendinitis in both knees, two old breaks in my left hand, and two damaged nerves in my right foot where the foot flexes. So I can do only limited range-of-motion with my arms, nothing specialized; I can try to build up to pushups but I do pay for it with somewhat increased pain, and no swimming, chinups or specialized weightlifting. I’m also told (all this is from several concurring opinions from orthopedic surgeons and physical therapists) not to do any squats or knee lifts, or leg presses. However I can do leg lifts till the cows come home. No problem with crunches, and my back is pretty good, and will only get better with exercise and stretching. I do have good stretching training. Now, I’ve read (see BowFlex) that consistent anaerobic exercise, i.e. weight workouts, whether using my own body weight or a separate weight, can not only build a healthier body but also result in weight loss over the body in general, by building muscle mass and some other mechanism I forget. Can you help me with an indoor exercise routine, i.e. a list of specific exercises? Walking and running, as well as stairstepping or aerobics, are out due to the nerve damage in the foot – one wrong move and I can’t walk for a while. I don’t have the money for a BowFlex, but what do you-all think of that new over-the-top/bottom-of-the-door exerciser? Or is it a waste of money? I can afford a basic weight bench and bar with a few weights, but that will do so little. I tried Pilates, but will only be able to do it after I get somewhere, same with yoga. So basically muscle-building exercises within my limitations is what I need. Thanks!
The over the door thing is the Body by Jake Tower 200. I’ll put up a separate question for it.

How can I strengthen/tone muscles faster?
October 8th, 2010I’m not looking for a quick easy way out of hard work, because I know those don’t exist. I’m just wondering about any tips you guys may have.
For the last 4 months or so every even day I’ve done: 20 push-ups, 5 chin-ups, 20 sit-ups, 20 bicep curls (20 lb free weights), and 12 various bowflex exercises for different muscle groups. Then on odd days I do a 16km run on an elliptical. I also do some pilates every so often. I think I eat healthy and have a high protein diet (I’m a vegetarian so it’s meat alternatives). I’ve put on muscle for sure, but I’m still working on getting a stronger/more sculpted body.
Are there any tips you guys may have to help speed things up? Thanks!
How long should I do cardio per day? How many times per week?
October 6th, 2010I decided that I should lose five pounds, so I’ve taken up twenty minutes of strength training per day on my dad’s Bowflex. I need to figure out how long it is healthy to do cardio, but enough so that it’s effective. I’m not a big athlete, but I don’t mind exercising. I eat healthy. Thank you!

Bowflex Resistance Bands?
October 3rd, 2010I am a little confused on the weights of the bowflex resistance bands. For example, if I do a bench press exercise with a 50 lb. resistance band attached on the right side, and a 50 lb. resistance band attached on the left side, is that equivalent to bench pressing 50lbs. or 100 lbs.? Are the marking on the resistance bands the total of both bands combined, or the value of each individual band? Also, how accurate are the values?
Is my HIIT schedule good? and can i do HIIT in sand for more resistance?
